As a patient in the ED, our team of highly skilled professionals will care for you. This may include the following:
A Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician has the overall responsibility for your care. At times a Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practioner may assess and treat your medical condition. Both work closely with the physician and other team members to provide appropriate and timely medical care.
A Registered Nurse will assess and monitor your physical condition, give you your medications, start and maintain your IV, and keep you and your family informed of any test and procedures. Your nurse will also provide you with important discharge information before you are discharged home. Each nurse is responsible for several patients and works closely with your doctor to provide the best care possible for you.
A patient care technician (PCT) may work with your nurse and doctor. PCTs check your vital signs, transport you for special testing or to your assigned room if you are admitted to the hospital, and assist you as needed to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
A social worker may also see you during your stay. Social workers are available to provide supportive care to you and your family members during an ED visit.
