Infectious Disease

Dr. Freitas is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease by the
American Board of Internal Medicine.  His practice, Infectious Disease of Great Plains, specializes in the following areas:

Influenza and other viral illnesses
HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Bone and joint infections
Health care associated infections
MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) infections
"One of the reasons I enjoy this specialty so much is that I rely on patient interaction," says Freitas.  "The patient really guides me in understanding their health history and the difficulties they have been having.  So much of infectious disease management overlaps the systems in the body - brain, heart, blood.  It is one of the most dynamic fields in medicine because it is constantly evolving."

Dr. Freitas's medical education includes:

Fellowship in Infectious Disease
Medical University of South Carolina
Charleston, SC

Residency in Internal Medicine
Western Pennsylvania Hospital
Pittsburgh, PA

Internship in Internal Medicine
Hospital Santa Casa de Misericordia
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
