Customized Treatment

The Callahan Cancer Center's medical staff develops a customized treatment plan based on the unique medical needs of each patient.

The treatment plan will likely include surgery, chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.

  • Surgery:  Great Plains Regional Medical Center has two surgeons on staff who offer a wide range of surgical options for cancer patients. Specialists in urology, gynecology, head and neck and orthopedics are also available for consultation and additional procedures.
  • Chemotherapy:  Our team of three medical oncologists prescribes chemotherapy treatments that are delivered either in one of our 12 infusion rooms or in one of four bedrooms. We have a pharmacist onsite in the Callahan Cancer Center, so patients don't have to wait for medications from the hospital's central pharmacy.
  • Radiation therapy:  Great Plains offers patients some of the most sophisticated radiation treatments thanks to its Varian linear accelerator. This high-power X-ray machine enables advanced techniques such as Intensity Modulation Treatment (IMT). which provides three-dimensional modeling. Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) is a procedure that helps account for organ movement to pinpoint bursts of radiation to areas measured in millimeters. This means we can typically avoid more healthy tissue with the treatment.

An onsite radiation oncologist works with the medical oncologists and registered technicians and nurses to manage the patient's treatment plan.

On the leading edge:  Great Plains Regional Medical Center participates in clinical trials and national research protocols, giving you access to promising new treatments. In fact, you'll have access to many of the same treatments and drugs as patients in large metropolitan areas such as Denver, Omaha or even New York City.
