Fighting cancer is not just a physical battle. Diagnosing and treating the disease will test your mental, emotional and spiritual strengths as well. At the Callahan Cancer Center, you don't have to go through this alone. We have many emotional and financial support systems in place to help you throughout your journey.
Social Worker: As needed, a dedicated social worker can help with the difficult or uncomfortable emotional and financial issues concerning their treatment. They can also help get access to a variety of community resources and care facilities, including long-term care and hospice.
Nutritionist: Our nutritionist works closely with you and your family to ensure dietary needs are being met. The nutritionist provides menu planning, food preparation tips, counseling and helps explain the therapeutic benefits of a healthy diet.
Rehabilitation: Several rehabilitation specialists are affiliated with GPRMC to help you recover mobility and integrate back into your lifestyle.
Wigs and turbans: Patients who have hair loss due to treatment may obtain a wig or turban from the wig bank located in the Center.
Resource Library: The Callahan Cancer Center Library has many books, pamphlets and audio-visual tapes with additional information on diagnosis, treatment, coping skills and humor, relaxation and music therapies.
Education programs: We offer a variety of educational programming to help you and your family and friends understand the disease and provide each other support throughout the journey. Community Support: The Callahan Cancer Center has many support programs in partnership with community organizations and the American Cancer Society. These range from support groups to financial, housing and transportation assistance.
