When you or a loved one comes to a hospital for specialized care you may still need general medical attention. In many hospitals this care is provided by a primary care physician (such as a family practice doctor or internist) who visits the hospital to make "rounds" with their patients.
The Great Plains Regional Medical Center hospitalist program offers patients the best possible care during their stay with us. Our program employs eight full-time internal medicine physicians to care for our hospitalized patients. The program is voluntary for referring physicians, so if your family doctor chooses, they can still attend to you while you're in the hospital.
Program benefits
The Great Plains hospitalists' primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients. As employees of Great Plains, they do not maintain private practices or practice outside the hospital. They are employed to provide patients the best care possible 24/7. Benefits of the program include:
- Board-eligible or board-certified internal medicine physician whose practice is entirely focused on the care of hospitalized patients.
- More frequent visits to patients. Because hospitalists practice only in the hospital, they can make themselves more available to patients.
- Hospitalists are always available to respond to changes in patients' conditions requiring immediate attention.
- Hospitalists are available to answer any questions for patients and their families.
