 Chief Executive Officer
Greg Nielsen is the chief executive officer of Great Plains Regional Medical Center, a position he has held since 2009. Under Nielsen’s leadership, Great Plains has refocused its services and reach to become west central Nebraska’s health care destination. Nielsen has partnered with the medical staff to grow new product lines and strengthen the hospitals overall portfolio of service offerings.
In addition, his team operationalized a hospitalist program, providing onsite acute care at the hospital while enabling physicians to spend more time with their non-hospitalized patients. During Nielsen’s tenure, the hospital medical staff has significantly grown in number to support the expansion in several important service lines such as a bariatric program and the first certified stroke center in Nebraska outside of Omaha and Lincoln. He also led the creation of the Great Plains Heart & Vascular Center, the first interventional cardiology program in Nebraska west of Kearney.
Nielsen has led healthcare organizations since 1997. He came to GPRMC from Miles City, Montana where he was the CEO of Holy Rosary Healthcare, a 137-bed hospital/long-term care facility. Prior to that he was the CEO at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle, Wyoming.
Nielsen earned a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a Bachelor’s in Healthcare and Long-term Care Administration from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Nielsen serves as treasurer of the Nebraska Hospital Association and board president of the North Platte Area Chamber of Commerce/Economic Development Corporation. His is a board member of Mid-Plains Community College Foundation and also serves as a Nebraska Hospital Association political advisory committee member.
